\nResearchers at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Centre have discovered a mechanism to detect the chances of survival of women over 65 suffering from lung cancer.<\/p>\n

The researchers have found that the level of the hormone called aromatase is directly correlated to the aggressiveness of lung cancer in older women and their lower rate of survival. Aromatase is an enzyme that naturally makes estrogen from another hormone androgen. The discovery will not only provide doctors with a new tool for predicting survival of the lung cancer sufferers but will also provide new avenues of using aromatase inhibitors for treatment.<\/p>

\n<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n

The study appeared in the November 1 issue of the journal Cancer Research. This will help doctors to plan their course of action – a more strategic course for women with probability of longer-term survival and a more aggressive course for patients with more aggressive form of lung cancer.<\/p>\n

About 98,000 women have been diagnosed with lung cancer this year. The new discovery is expected to help them.<\/p>\n
