Well, for long it has been believed that marijuana adversely affects users’ decision-making ability. But a new study has come up with some altogether different findings, which state that consumption of marijuana in experienced users has no affect either on performance or on end results.

These findings have been published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology. During the course of study that was conducted at New York State’s Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University, researchers assessed the impact of acute cannabis intoxication on the decision-making abilities of 36 subjects in an Iowa Gambling Task performance test. These subjects completed the Gambling Task once without taking the marijuana and to the surprise of researchers three times after smoking cannabis or placebo. Though after the cannabis intoxication these subjects took a little time more to finish the task but the accuracy level wasn’t affected at all.

Authors of study concluded:

Advantageous card selection and money earned on the task were not disrupted by marijuana. These data are consistent with previous findings that indicated that speed of performance on tests of executive function, but not accuracy, is disrupted in experienced marijuana users during marijuana intoxication.
