Business Guide LatestCareer OffbeatUncategorized

Your perception plays a big role in deciding if your career decision is right or wrong

Taking serious decisions is almost always a matter of dilemma for us, especially if those decisions are connected with our career and there is a plethora of choices. It can mean deciding to leave away from loved ones, changing your lifestyle as well as learning new things and deriving satisfaction.

Your decision will lead to various experiences. Every experience, may it be positive or negative helps your personal growth. That’s why there is nothing like wrong career decisions.

The secret is not being pessimistic

If you are presently struggling in your career or hate your job, that does not mean you have taken a wrong decision. Sometimes it is the apparent mistakes that lead us to our destinations. When it comes to career decisions, looking at the glass half-full is a wiser way to deal with anxiety.

Every experience in your career will teach you either a new skill or bring focus to your hidden talents, only if you try to look at things positively. Keep looking for new and more enriching opportunities but without feeling pessimistic.

Accept, reason and deal with it

Smooth sailing is often impossible due to unpredictable circumstances. Sometimes our decisions are challenged by a crisis in our life. For making the most of your decisions you should first accept your situation and position in life. Non-linear career development can offer as much opportunity for growth as linear career growth.

Don’t be afraid of making drastic changes in your career and pursuing entirely different career path if that’s what you desire. Start replacing the ‘or’, ‘but’ with ‘and’ when you reason about career choices. Inclusion of ‘and’ will open up possibilities instead of curbing them. No matter what career you have chosen, try to learn as much as you can and deliver your best. This will at least help you become more focused, patient and confident.

Analyze options and measure your skills

 Analyze options

When there is more than one career option then analyzing all the options becomes necessary. Review each of the job descriptions and find out what key skills are required and what responsibilities you will have.

Also find out the options of further growth and how the job will help in enhancing your resume. Think about the culture and ambience of the company, work ethics, dress code and if you are comfortable with it all.

Tips for handling career glitches

Though every career decision offers some benefit or insight, if you are feeling panicked and wants to change the direction of your career then the first advice for you would be to calm down and step back. You need to take stock of your situation from an objective point of view.

Also try to find out what makes you dissatisfied with your current job and if you want to do something entirely different. Note down the issues with your career that bother you such as low pay, hectic schedule, job dissatisfaction, less time for family and so on. This will help you in discovering the route that is apt for you.

There is nothing like wrong career decision. It is all about how you perceive things and deal with situations. If you are not happy with your career choices, then analyze the reasons behind it and try to fix the problem.
