The wallets of Indian kids are growing as their parents are more eager to provide them with handsome pocket money, a new survey indicates so.

The survey, titled as new generations 2009, was conducted among parents from the major India cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. The survey, which also interviewed 3,431 children belonging to mid- to high-income families in July-August this year, reveals that their parents are willing to provide them with more pocket money, even sacrificing family expenditures on holidays and picnics.

Nearly 40 per cent parents with 7 to 14 year-old children gave pocket money to their young, up from 36 per cent in 2008 and 32 per cent in 2006. Does it show that the parents are more concerned and affectionate than before? Well, I believe that it is an indication of fast changing life styles and perceptions. Parents, though they are founded on traditional Indian value base, also possess another conflicting perspective and vision about their children in this new world order.
