Dr. Ross McDonald of the University of Auckland Business School has recently suggested that Bhutan should ban all advertisements. In his argument, he holds that since Bhutan is primarily a non-industrialized society, therefore the fear of job loss do not apply to Bhutan.
He went on to suggest that the national policy of Bhutan stresses on maximizing happiness among people and advertising is a destructive force in this struggle. Further, he concludes that his study and experience stamp the notion that advertisement do not ever contribute to any pay off in happiness.
However, Razib Ahmed has rightly suggested that advertisement is an essential part of modern global economic system. Now Bhutan should come out of isolation to embrace modern economic system.
