Apple debuted the 300 PPI, 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution Retina Display technology on the new iPad earlier this year and thus far the display tech was the undisputed leader in consumer tech. However, Apple’s biggest rivals, Samsung, Pantech and LG have now stepped up its game and are all set to launch 1080p high definition smartphones of their own. The three smartphone giants are reportedly readying new LCD and AMOLED displays with over 400 PPI pixel density.

The big Korean companies seem pretty determined to match the wares being vended by Apple and are expected to have their new displays ready and offered with their latest smartphones by the first half of 2013. LG and Samsung are reported to be readying their new HD displays indigenously though it is unclear where the Taiwan-based Pantech is sourcing its 1080p display from.

Samsung is hot on the heels of the new iPhone and is all set to cut down on the device market share with the launch of the Galaxy Note 2. HTC, Pantech and LG too are chipping into the domination of the iPhone series worldwide though it remains to be seen whether the 1080p smartphones from these companies would be able to match the tech finesse of the famed iPhone .
