Russian ad market growing despite stringent laws

According to a Russian official with the International Chamber of Commerce, the Russian advertising market will touch $6 billion mark in the current year, which is up by $1 billion from the previous year. Despite the strict laws related to the advertising sector, expenditure in advertising has kept on increasing at stable rate. As of now in the current year, advertising industry has just attracted 60 percent of the targeted expenditure since it attracts most of the money in the last quarter of a year.

If compared with other liberal countries the ad laws are quite stringent in Russia as they aim to establish high ethical standards and have made strict guidelines so that the industry will be at arm’s length from violating country’s moral norms and tradition.

In particular, cases as that of tobacco and liquor advertising on television and on billboards are banned and further they even cannot advertise in the guise of their non-alcoholic product. Another paradoxical aspect is that the laws has cut the volume of TV ads has been constantly reduced. Moreover, they are further aiming to reduce the length of ad segment on TV to four minutes from the current length of seven to eight minutes.
