The Queensland Government’s anti smoking advertising showing young women looking at a reflection of themselves smoking twice, recently found itself mired in controversy. Another health advertising campaign from the state, a whistleblower doctor, is also grappling with controversy. The Australian Medical Association (AMA) felt the ad instead of ensuring positive answer to the cause would actually backfire.
The State Government has already spent taxpayers $1.9 million on the ad. While opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg is blasting the government in various TV shows, acting prime minister says the investment is appropriate and that the campaign will continue till enough doctors and nurses are recruited.
