Becoming a leader of a team, or a unit is a very big responsibility to handle. It is important that you give full justice to yourself, to your team and to the organization. But, will the organization make you a leader just like that? Not necessary. It is important for you to show the management that you can be a good leader if given a chance. If you feel that your boss is asking any person to take the lead of something – maybe a talk, or a project, then go forth and tell your boss you can handle it. One thing to keep in mind is, do not rush. Take your time to analyze if you really will be able to handle it, or else it might bounce back at you. If you think you can do it, go ahead and grab the opportunity.
Talk to people, and listen to them
If you think your boss is not paying attention on your socializing skills, then you are wrong. Every person is not only judged on the way they work and on their results, but they are also observed closely. Become a little outspoken, and make sure that you talk to your peers, and have good healthy interactions.
Be on time, to create positive impressions
The most judging criteria at work is, how effectively one is able to meet deadlines. Thus, when you are assigned a task, try to complete it on time, or even better, before time. This will give you time to review your job, plus it will create a good impression on the management. Ensure that you make no mistakes while in a hurry to complete work.
Work on your shortcoming
While you are working on impressing your boss, also make sure that you are working on what you are not good at it. This has to be done, because in case you become a lead, you do not want to be termed a loser, who is not good at certain things. Thus, make it a point to excel in all the fields that a good manager should know about.
Plan it all out. Do not hurry with everything. Make a good concrete plan about all the things you have to do, and how do you with to complete them. This will help you to be organized as well, and will ensure that you are working on all your skills and an all-round development.
