More newspapers and magazines are making their online versions, in view of the problems faced by falling ad revenues and subscribers. They hope that stepping into the online world, even while continuing with the print versions, will help in the future. Thus naturally there is an increasing trend of putting more attention on the online sites. However, as from the very beginning, there is still a clear ambiguity about the revenue sharing and the mode of marketing operations. Though the paywall idea has been considered by top media tycoons, the practical implementation of that idea is still unknown.
Now, as German Chancellor Angela Merkel begins her second term, her government is mulling a proposal to implement copyright protection for online content. The supporters of this movement argue that quality journalism and content should be protected with copyright and be valued.
However, there are many others who oppose this movement. They say that implementing restrictions on the online world will curb the freedom and democracy of the internet world.
