Recently an ad comparing Israel’s actions in Lebanon with Nazi atrocities in the Second World War landed in intense criticism from all quarters in Italy. The print ad was run in several dailies in Italy. The ad not only divided the Muslim community in the country but infuriated political leaders and the Jewish community as well.
The ads were given to publication by the Union of Islamic Communities in Italy Association (UCOII). This association is representing the Consulta Islamica, a government-appointed advisory body on Islamic affairs.
The ad has further tried to compare the 1943 Nazi murder of 335 Italians with the recent Israeli action in Lebanon.
