This is an interesting poster advertisement campaign launched by History Channel in its effort to broaden its viewership in South Africa. The campaign apparently focuses on few incidents from the past that really shocked the entire world to put focus that the channel can lease a life into that incident to be shown on the channel. The posters were placed on to the poles at the roadside in a sequence.
The onlooker will come first across some headline that had stunned almost entire world in the past such as ‘Mandela arrested in Joburg’, ‘Prince Charles to divorce’ and ‘US president slain’ and then the onlookers will come across the poster with the logo of History Channel and the punch line. The campaign has strategically chosen these headlines as they are still relevant among people and people want to see or know what exactly happened at that time.
It has used a notable punch line, ‘watch history come to life’. The campaign was created by Ogilvy & Mather.
