While we can never deny that the advancement of technology has broadened the horizon of possibilities we can hardly overlook the demerits associated with it, especially when things concern road safety. With the introduction of smart phone apps, pocket internet, texting and internet accessing options through the dashboard, cars are now no less than living areas. Unfortunately, can these guarantee that the frequencies of road accidents will also be lessened? The safety of the driver is entirely in his own discretion. Playing with fire can always be dangerous. So, staying away is the wisest way to look at it. This is exactly what the car safety ads try to project. We bring you five top car safety ads that have remained as all time favorites for the spine chilling messages they convey.

1. “Embrace Life” Sussex Safer Roads Advertisement

This new ad has recently topped the list of awareness programs that lay emphasis on the necessity of wearing seat belts while driving. The most amusing part of this Sussex based advertisement is that it is devoid of any verbal message. But the question is that how it can raise awareness among people. A man is seen enacting as if he is driving a car. Things were perfectly all right when the need of a seat belt was felt. This is clearly understood from the traumatized expression in his face, indicating a vehicle approaching. But, his family comes to his rescue and embraces him just as the seat belt does when we meet with such situations. So, the metaphor of family enacting as the seat belt gives us a feeling that seat belts are no less than our closest keen too, which saves our lives from fatal road accidents.

2. “Driving while texting” from Gwent, UK public safety campaign

If you have been lucky so far for texting and driving simultaneously, this spine chilling video depicting a fatal road accident will undoubtedly compel you to rethink. Texting can cost your life. At least that is what we could see in the ad campaign video, “Driving while texting” from Gwent. This is exactly what happened to the gang of girls, who were engrossed in texting while driving. The result was quite predictable. A head on collision of their car left one girl friendless and a boy orphaned. It is needless to say texting while driving brought a brutal end to a number of lives.

3. “Like” by Volkswagen

Volkswagen has taken a different take on road safety to promote the functional excellence of their boxy cars over the other brands. This ad was not an exception. What we could see here is that, two men engrossed in conversation while driving land up in accident. But, hold it. They do not die as “Safe Happens”. They survive miraculously. Thanks to Volkswagen as it claims to own four star front impact crash rating. This is never a joke. Those who do not have a Volkswagen species might face a different end. Your fate might point towards death. Therefore, masses should be steer clear of concept that car is not a living area where chit chat can go aimlessly. While driving, you can meet with road lethal accidents if you become extremely careless.

4. “Shake Hands With Danger” by the Caterpillar Tractor Company

This ad was an evergreen masterpiece that showed up in the media circle way back in 1980. The grave voice of Harry Morgan suited the role of the narrator well. The background music of the video came in two themes; Country and Western, to suite the taste of a larger target audience. Therefore, we can conclude that it had all the ingredients that would grab the attention of the audience. The funny incidents that we saw in those videos encourage giggles and chuckles due to the lightheartedness of the ad. Probably, the producer, The Caterpillar Tractor Company did not wish to be too nasty while educating us about the road safety. But we do not think that the graveness of the message went unnoticed behind the humor filled imagery.

5. Australia Transport Accident Commission compilation

This video was launched just prior to Christmas in order to create awareness about the apathy of drunk driving. Australia’s Transport Accident Commission had been trying hard since the last twenty years to raise awareness among the masses about the fatal outcome of driving while drunk. This touchy video was designed to melt the heart of even the ignorant of the drunken driven. The maker claims that the rate of drunken driving dropped down to half as compared to 1980, when the first ad was aired. Let us not get into the debate whether this ad could really bring down the percentage of drunk drivers in Australia or not. But the fate of the drunken youngsters in this road accident and the brutal run over of innocent passersby are enough to rethink before driving when intoxicated.
