This print advertisement of BenQ, Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, was seized from circulation in China due to many complaints raising objection to the choice of background image. The complaints alleged that the advertisement appears to show a boy emerging from the rubble of the World Trade Centre on September 11 attacks. It was alleged this sort of depiction is highly offensive.
Further, the complaints argued that the slogan, I belive, music makes hope, is not appropriate as it does not reflect sensitive response to the event of the day of terrorist attack.
However, the company preferred not to make public apology, though the company decided to send apology letter to the complainants saying BenQ deeply regrets the running of the ad in China.
