The television commercial of Wildeklawer Sweet Onions shows a rugby player is in deep discussion with his coach. The rest of the players are standing outside and refusing to come in. The rugby player inside the room is eating a can of beans while coach is asking him, ‘Why, Roy, why? With sweet onions there are no tears, no burn and definitely no stink.’
And then the tagline goes, ‘Wildeklawer Sweet Onions. Stinky is out. Sweet is in.’
The bean producers smell foul though. They claim that Wildeklawer Sweet Onions commercial failed to recognize that the gas formation due to beans was
merely a temporary condition which occurs while a person’s body gets used to the added fibre and prebiotics contained in beans.
In response to the complain Wildeklawer says that the commercial does not want to make misleading or competitive claims and that it’s a very common perception that beans cause gas.
Advertising Standards Authority also feels that beans do make you fart and it is an It is only an ‘objectively determinable factual reality.’
