Market needs keep changing as do people’s preferences. It is more apt to say it evolves. The difference is that one thing does not metamorphosis into another. Rather it builds upon an existing skeleton by adding features block by block. So you are not all of a sudden in or out. However it is important to keep a tab on the direction of the wind. You had a style that was unique of you. It had won you accolades. Figure out if the magic is waning. Learn from criticism if your approach is beginning to grow tiring and worse, predictable. Study your weaknesses, start building on them. Experiment on your strengths. Learn what is selling. Align your work in accordance.
Update yourself
Do not forget your value drops the day you stop evolving. And you are extinct, the day you stop surprising. Market evaluation and innovation are the two key phrases that success rides on. The former lays foundation for the latter. Direction is the next important thing to keep in view. Social and electronic media manages to turn attention of the masses to a fixed direction. So, unless you have something ground breaking to launch, it is safer to build your project in the direction in focus.
Develop on your forte
Your niche is your strength. Never forgo of it even if it is out of focus in the current scenario. Learn new skills but never let go of your forte. Develop on it. Exercise it. Experiment on it simultaneously. Think in terms of derivatives. What could be derived of the original form? Can it be blended with some other? Is the result favourable? If yes, on what platform? What should be the cost of building one such platform? Will it be worth the effort? What else should the platform support? The correct answers to these questions may land you on the top of your cult.
Never lose track of the industry trend
Follow the trend to every twist, every bend. Not only are you more likely to fare well keeping in line with the thoughts of the generation but it will also give you a ground to build from. You tend to get lost trying to make something out of nothing. An idea or a hint always pays. And keep feeding the analytical cells of your brain.
Keep pace with the developments
Even if you are working independent of the time or trend, it still is advisable to cut time out to cast yourself against the leading ground. Build something in tune with the ongoing trend. Check to see if you are still competent or not. It always helps to have something to fall back on if the trump project tanks.
Study international markets
It would be a crime to be completely ignorant of the international market. Trend setting ideas are encouraged and financed there. You might meet your think-alike there. You might chance collaboration. And who knows where your cords are destined to strum. Being less optimistic it just might lend you ideas to work upon.
Don’t starve the wild idea
Ideas are rare, wild ideas rarer still. Preserve them till the opportune moment – when, under circumstances they will prove to be perfectly feasible and in tune with the flow. So stack the seemingly revolutionary ideas but do not let go of them. In the twists and turns of destiny (read trend) there will be a time when you might be in a position to bank upon them.
To keep yourself afloat in the rapidly changing scenes it is essential to a part of the change. Being rigid and orthodox has long suffered its grand defeat and given way to improvisation. Hence it is of utmost importance to embrace the changes and still try to bend it in your favour.
