Dell has been forced to roll back its TV ad for its Dell Inspiron notebook following the instruction of the advertisement watchdog ASA.
The TV ad in question advertised the notebook having an Intel Celeron processor was available for only £299. Later on, potential customers found out that the same notebook is actually available for £349. However, the complainants reported that the price of the laptop went up when they selected the laptop on Dell’s website.
Dell, on other hand argued that the price of £349 included an upgraded service package, which customers could deselect according to their wishes. The company further claimed that it was industry practice to upgrade service option automatically.
However, ASA has acknowledged that there was a note on the site that informed people that a downgraded version is available at the said price. Further, ASA felt that the TV commercial could not be run in the present form, as this was misleading.
