ASA wields its axe. Some ads become victims and some manages to have a narrow escape. The press campaign for the film antichrist belongs to the later group, for it has escaped a ban from the advertising watchdog.
The press ads, which ran in the Times, the Guardian and the Independent, showed a man and a woman having sex and carried a warning about its sexual content. The ads naturally caused a stir, and ASA received complaints regarding the pornographic nature of the ads.
However, ASA ruled that that the dark that the “dark tone” of the ad was “unlikely to cause sexual excitement” and was therefore not pornographic.
