The image of superheroes casted in the mind of people has been used wisely on commercials to sell anything and everything. From brush and butter to shoes, superheroes have been featured in commercials to facilitate the sale of products.

Once the batman set its foot on the silver screen many lifeless superheroes that were born in the pages of the famous comic series came to life and made their debut in Hollywood. The famous superheroes which come to our mind the moment we think about them are, Spiderman, X-man, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Superman, Batman etc.

Superheroes have not restricted their zone to just Hollywood movies but also have entered the world of advertising with most kick-ass commercials being aired all over the TV, like the 2004 award winning commercial of Volkswagen and another one featured in Archive from Prague starring a drunk superhero.

Superheroes have successfully entered the Indian advertising industry too. With the popularity and fan following surrounding the superheroes all the advertisers are trying to generate the sales by instituting few elements in relation to famous superheroes so that the mass can relate to it, thereby making it profitable for the product sales. McDonalds Commercial-

McDonalds is one of the most renowned snacks bar throughout the word. In the 1996 McDonals aired a commercial featuring marvel superhero to promote their scheme of giving out marvel superhero toys with Happy Meals for kids.

Got Milk commercial –

In this advertisement many marvel comic superheroes like Hulk, Iron man, Scarlet witch, Spiderman, Thor and captain America are featured. The primary aim of this add was to generate the benefits of drinking milk, as all the superheroes along with the milkman engages in fighting the good fight for Milk. At the end of the video it’s written that milk gives us strong bones and helps fight osteoporosis.

The Underoos Commercial from 1978-

This commercial of 1978 was a classic it advertised the underwear of superheroes. For all the kids who were inspired by the superheroes and wanted similar outfits this commercial was a delight to them. It also made the notion that kids who wore them were ‘BIG’. The 1978 commercial features different DC and Marvel comic superheroes leaping and then jumping on the beds of little kids wearing their underwear.

Air force PSA Commercial –

In 1974 the United States Air Force launched a commercial which portrayed the Air force officer using the power as strong as that of superman to find young, qualified people who could enter the compartments and soar high like a Superman. This commercial also features Dick Williams who first introduces the works and jobs relating to air force and the need for good, smart, valuable workmen who will get the perfect jobs which are apt for them in air force.

Peanut butter commercial-

This 1980 commercial starred Lex Luther and superman. In this add it’s shown that Lex Luther has kryptonite and is keeping superman away from the peanut butter. But the love and lust which Superman had supersedes all his fears and dangers and is not able to stop him from reaching his tub of peanut butter. After this advertisement all the superman fans, especially the kids ran and got their own cans of peanut butter.

American Express commercial-

In 2004 for this commercial Superman and Seinfeld came together to promote American Express in their Beatle car. The adventures of superman and Seinfeld which were short films commercial featured Jerry Seinfeld as Seinfeld and Patrick Warburton who was a co-star to jerry in Seinfeld as the voice of Superman. Apart from promoting American Express which was the prime objective of these commercial this add also showed Superman and Seinfeld as friends. There were two commercial movies made “A Uniform Used to mean something’ and “Hindsight is 20/20”.

Kids Power Shoe commercial –

This commercial was launched in 1980 by the animated kid’s shoes producers and featured Hulk. The main idea behind featuring Hulk was to convince the kids that if they wear their brand shoes they will get powers like HULK and be strong.

Thus the advent of superheroes in the commercials is sure to provide a boost to the products also depending on its credibility.
