Entering the yet untapped Chinese web world has always been a dream of western media giants like Time Warner and News Corporation. However government restrictions and lack of privacy have been an impediment to their giant dreams. Now, Discovery Communications, the owner of the Discovery Channel and other cable channels, is all set to step into this market carefully.<\/p>

Discovery has signed a pact with Baidu, which is sometimes described as the \u00e2\u0080\u0098Google of China\u00e2\u0080\u0099. Discovery, in collaboration with this leading search engine in China, will jointly create a web site on science and adventure topics.<\/p>\n

Baidu, which reportedly handles 70 percent of the China\u00e2\u0080\u0099s search requests, will translate the materials into Mandarin and host them on a new section of its Web site. The two companies will share the advertising revenue.<\/p>\n
