Horstmann technique

The Horstmann Technique is a gentle bodywork technique that aims at promoting healing and wellness by releasing blockages developed in the body. These blockages can be identified by stiffness or pain, which can be both physical and emotional. In this technique, various methods are used that enable the release of trapped energy. It uses ileo-sacral release, arm or shoulder release and foot release therapies.

History

This technique was developed in mid 1990by Trish Trowbridge, who was a natural therapist from Australia. The birth name of Trish was Horstmann. She practiced many natural therapies like remedial massage, herbal medicine and others for more than ten years. In 1995, she accessed in a transpersonal vision and developed the ileosacral as the first technique.

Principle

It is commonly observed that people experience injuries, muscle strains, pulls, emotions, fears and other negative physical and emotional sensations but leave it ignored. These give rise to blocked negative energies and form the basis of muscles strains and pain especially those in the lower back.

These energy blocks can remain held in the sacrum region and can cause problems such as postural misalignment, imbalances in biochemistry and behavioral responses.

  • Horstmann technique and particularly the ileosacral part can help to the release this physically trapped energy and can also sometimes provide immediate symptomatic relief.
  • The arm, neck and shoulder work can similarly release many such structural problems of the muscles and tissues of the shoulder joint.
  • The foot release technique is a unique, simple and effective method that helps to release residual effects the trapped energy in the body through the subtle energy reflexes of the foot.

Method

The Horstmann Technique uses movement and passive stretching that helps to improve circulation, increases range of motion and freedom of movement and activity. It promotes healing and wellness by releasing these blockages and the trapped energy.

While practicing, the therapist holds a series of energy points on the patient’s body and helps to rotate the arm, leg of foot as per the complaints. The patient is made to lie down dressed in simple and soft clothes. Each session lasts for about an hour.

Although some changes can be seen during initial sessions, more lasting and effective results can be seen during further sessions of this therapy.
