Will the cognitive therapy help me?

I would like myself to make changes at my work, my family life, relationships with my family and friends. How do I decide on which areas will I be able to make changes on my own and on which areas will I need the help of a therapist? My friends are suggesting to go for the cognitive therapy, should I, will that be the best one for me? What do you suggest? I can make out that I do need some help to improve my behavior toward the society and my family and work but I don’t understand what will help me. Please guide me.
