A trip at Hervey Bay amongst the lovable whales

Even though whales are often called killer whales, they are still known to be the star at various aquatic shows as they can be highly trained and are the most intelligent aquatic mammals. These massive and intelligent sea creatures are of many types and there are those who appear to be so lovable that you would want to hug them after seeing their adorable antics. These lovable whales are the cetaceans, which belong to the porpoise and dolphin family!

Whales do not belong to the fish family, as they do not breathe through gills but through their lungs by exhaling through blowholes. However, their streamlines fish-like bodies allow them to propel just like fish. These giant cetaceans live with sea cows inside the water and are the only mammals that have adapted to living in the open oceans.

Hervey Bay witnesses a massive migration of nearly 1,200 humpback whales from the Antarctica in the time from mid-June to July. These cute sea mammals, during this weather, migrate to sub-tropical coastal waters of Eastern and Western Australia and even to Fiji. They travel the distance just to mate and give birth to young ones during the winter and spring seasons.

The humpback whales have long flippers, which allow them to frolic and sing into the water. The pods of these whales migrate towards the famed Great Barrier Reef when they enter Eastern Australia. They stop for a couple of days at Hervey Bay and then by November, mostly all of them leave the Queensland Coast.

During this particular whale season, many people have tried to make it big at Hervey Bay by organising whale watching sessions, which have proved to become a major tourist attraction in this Australian city. Numerous tourists flock the city to see the giant mammals and this fact has earned Hervey Bay the reputation as the whale watching capital of Australia.

Various package deals are available at the resorts in Hervey Bay when it comes to whale watching. Once you witness these magnificent creatures first-hand, you will not be aware that this could truly be an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience.
These whales do amazing acrobatics, such as breaching wherein they jump high out of the water and slam it once they dive back and spyhopping wherein they poke their heads out of the sea and turn around. The mammals also perform lobtailing wherein they stick out their tails into the air and swing it with slapping sounds and logging wherein they lie on the surface of the water in a resting position.
