Do’s and don’ts of going on a cruise with kids

For parents planning a holiday is all about their children. It is difficult for new parents to know what is best for them and how to keep the kids away from dangers. A cruise might sound exciting and children definitely enjoy cruises but at the same time as parents it is your responsibility to make sure that the cruise provides best comfort and support for your children. In the middle of the sea you will not be able to turn things around at a minute’s notice. Following tips are going to help you in making your cruise trip a happy and safe one.

Do’s

Find out the age limits:

Different cruise ship companies have different age rules. Some allow kids as small as only 3 months old and some do not allow babies less than 6 months to 1 year old. Booking with the appropriate cruise will help you take better care of your toddlers as necessary resources are going to be handy.

Pack your toddler bags:

If you want to enjoy your cruise then packing appropriately is the first step. Kids are different and each has its special tantrums, choices and needs. They are also stubborn and have not learnt to compromise. Always carry the things that your kids require daily. For example you have to carry their towels, nappies, wipe pads, and of course their favorite food and crunchies. Do not expect to get everything at the cruise stores.

Calculate the costs:

The children cannot travel in a ship for free. You will have to bear minimum charges at least. Tax and dock fees have to be paid for them too. Cruise packages for families with small kids generally count the costs of children in them. Also keep some money aside for medical facilities if necessary.

Don’ts

No bathtub:

If you have not booked a suite or high end cruise room then chances are that you will get only a shower cubicle and not a bathtub. Take shower with your toddlers or give them a sponge bath. You can also wash them by filling a bucket and pouring water from a mug.

Swim restrictions:

Most cruises have special swimming zones for small kids. But don’t embarrass yourself by allowing your potty-untrained kid into the water as it is prohibited by cruise authorities. Letting toddlers swim on their own can be dangerous and nappies for swimming are not allowed in most ships.
