The cologne carnival is the carnival which takes place every year in Cologne, Germany. Street carnival is a weeklong festival also called as “the crazy days”. These crazy days takes place between the Fat Thursday and ends on Ash Wednesday. Rose Monday is the highlight of the carnival which comes two days before the Ash Wednesday. A typical greeting during the festival is “Kolle Alaaf”. It a small phrase which is called as “Cologne above all” in English.

The cologne carnival is the biggest party carries for the next six days. The Germans spend the time of their lives in drinking, dancing and singing. On Ash Wednesday it’s compulsory to have a fish on that day. So you can find that item in the menus of all pubs and restaurants.

Cologne carnival celebrations

It is one of the most celebrated street parties. These celebrations attract the millions of visitors from all over the world. People enjoy singing and dancing to late nights. Pubs and restaurants will open till early hours. The streets will get crowded with the people. People dress with different costumes and walk into the streets. Hundreds of horses, clad groups and more than 130 bands pass through the streets during carnival.

Women’s carnival day

The women in fancy dress head towards the Alter market. The street carnival is opened at the alter market with three principle carnival figures like “the prince, the virgin and the peasant”. Masked balls and parties will be organized in the afternoon and evening.

Carnival Friday, Saturday and Sunday

These three days are completely for the parties and masked balls. Visitors can go around the city which makes you really worth.  The city will flow with Jecken or carnival figures by the afternoon. As the Sunday comes the school groups will appear in a fancy dress and costumes of clubs in the quarters of the city.

 Rose Monday

It will be an unforgettable experience for the visitor. The parade occupies with almost 10000 people looks beautiful in the streets. People throw tons of sweets and flowers from floats to the reveling crowds. The parade lasts for seven kilometers where you can find lot of places to mark. The city echoes to the sounds of carnival battle cry “Long live cologne!” Lot of fun and the celebrations continues in the halls, pubs and restaurants. Best moment to see.

Carnival Tuesday

The parties which started in the midday will continue till mid night. Parades at colognes filled with carnival societies and groups in a fancy dress. The nubbel which is a life size straw figure is burnt.

Ash Wednesday

The carnival will come to an end on Ash Wednesday. There will be a traditional fish dinner to the night. Most of the restaurants and pubs add fish as the main menu.
