If you are a technology geek and wish to come across newer and fresher ideas on wearable technology, Nixie is just the right fit for you. Created by Christoph Kohstall, Michael Niedermayr and Jelena Jovanovic, Nixie is a wearable drone that is the first of its kind in the world. Intel had recently thrown the “Make It Wearable” challenge and Nixie was submitted as a competitive entry to it.

Appearance

Although Nixie appears to be a simple bracelet, it is actually a high-tech wearable gadget. In fact, it is the first ever drone that is wearable on your wrist. Nixie is designed to perform complex tasks like clicking pictures and shooting videos of a user while flying in the air and without the help of another person. It is like a wearable camera that can fly off your wrist to take your pictures. Nixie is just like a regular watch and has almost the same size. It is a sleek wearable gadget that is quite simple in appearance.

This wearable and flyable camera runs using Edison system-on-a-chip to power functionality. Nixie is installed with motion sensors that respond well to gesture-based commands and are able to track a user’s location efficiently. That is the background behind its “boomerang” and “follow me” modes. In the first mode, Nixie captures the image and then automatically comes back to the user’s wrist. In the second mode, it remains airborne so you may carry on with your adventures and it may shoot a video of your movements.

Ease of use

Nixie is quite easy and comfortable to use. You can simply wear it on your wrist and flick it in the air when you need it to take your selfie. It will just go into action and capture a perfect shot that you have always wanted to take while doing river rafting or rock climbing. You do not need anybody’s help when you have Nixie with you.

Usefulness

Whether you are involved in adventure sports or want to take a group selfie, Nixie can be of help at all times. It is able to take wonderful static pictures in a single shot. It seems magical when it goes off the wrist, takes a perfect shot and comes back to your wrist on its own.

Reputation

Nixie is still at the prototype stage in Intel’s challenge. However, we can expect it to do really well if it comes to the production arena.
