A new hospital in Abu Dhabi is all set to cut down the need for UAE’s citizens to travel out of the country for medical treatments. Located at Zayed Sports City, the multi-speciality hospital is called Healthpoint and expects to cut down on the need for Emirati patients to indulge in medical tourism out of the country. owned by Mubadala Healthcare, the 74-bed hospital would focus primarily on the top five areas for which local patients seek treatment aboard which include pediatrics, spinal surgery and orthopedics.

Being heavily focused departments for medical tourists, the hospital hopes to attract plenty of Emirati patients. some of the hospital’s departments opened up their outpatient clinics in the last week itself and hopes to provide high-quality services to patients that would generally need to travel overseas for the same quality of care,

Asklepios, a German operator manages Healthpoint, and hopes to bring world class medical facilities to white-collar expats that demand health care of the same quality as they get in their home countries. The hospital opened its outpatient facilities for departments like gynecology, general pediatrics, dentistry and family medicine in June along with a pharmacy.

Other departments that are set to open up shortly include plastic and reconstructive services, general surgery, radiology, dermatology, nephrology, urology and pediatric dentistry.

Around 80 percent of the doctors at the hospital have been recruited from North America, Europe and other world class healthcare systems and only 10 percent are Emirati. Eventually, the hospital plans to employ 87 medical support staff and technicians and 165 nurses and 63 doctors.

The hospital will also be the new home for the Abu Dhabi Knee and Sports Medicine Centre that has been operational in the city since 2006 and has been working out of private hospitals so far. Undertaking 1,100 surgeries per year, the clinic deals with general orthopedic- sports- and work related injuries and specializes in treatment and rehabilitation in orthopedics as well.

Healthpoint will also be the flagship location from which the Wooridul Spine Centre will operate. The clinic will be spread over 1,000 square meters and would provide treatments like physiotherapy, spinal care, comprehensive orthopedics and rehabilitation for chronic back pain and spinal injuries.

Through Healthpoint, Abu Dhabians and Emiratis from around the nation would be able to access German effectiveness, German quality and German standards of health care without leaving the country for medical tourism.
