The man who had no feelings

READY TO GO

Robin got job in the city but promised his family that he would take a day off to come back whenever they needed him. He packed his bags and went to the city. Robin was 28 and lived in a village. He went to the city for a few years to finish his education but made sure to come back every month. In his family, he had his parents, wife and two kids. He wanted to get some work in the village so that he could stay with his family but knew that he had to move to city to make some money.

see off

His wife and kids came to the railway station to see him off. His wife and kids were also sad.

Robin said, “Don’t put on a sad face. I will try to come back very month. Take care of everyone.”

He boarded the train and went to the city.

In his office, he liked everyone and was happy since the first day of the office gave him an opportunity to make some new friends.

Only a few days later, his wife gave him a call to tell him that she was diagnosed with brain tumor and he must come back home. Robin was shocked to hear that and ran towards his manger’s cabin whom he had met only once.

His manager was a middle-aged man who used to be very busy all day long.

He knocked on the door and took permission to come inside.

Robin said, “Good afternoon, sir. I want to talk about something important. My wife has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. I must go back home.”

Job interview

His manger did not even look at him and said in a mild tone, “You may leave but make sure someone you hand over your work to someone else.”

Robin came out of the cabin but felt strange since everyone his office who knew about his wife gave his sympathy except his manager.

He borrowed some money from his friends and boarded the next train to go back home. Robin came back after one week. He wanted to stay more but he knew that he needed money to pay for the medical bills so the job was a necessity. Every single person in the office came to him and asked about his wife’s health. He met his manger twice after coming back but he did not bother to say anything.

Human hands exchanging money

Robin used to call his wife many times a day and found it difficult to concentrate on his work but he had to manage somehow. He used to go back to his village every now and then. His wife’s health was not improving at all. He had it all written all over his face and everyone in his office was concerned. He used to go to his manager’s cabin many times a day but he never asked anything about Robin’s wife.

“What a heartless creature he is, as if a few words of sympathy would cost him the world,” Robin once said to himself.

On day when Robin was busy attending a meeting, the receptionist came running inside the conference room. She was going out of breath. The moment she stepped inside Robin’s heart skipped beat as If he knew what had happened.

“Catch your breath back. What happened? Don’t you know we have a meeting going on,” manager shouted at her.

The receptionist’s face went red but she gathered the strength to say that someone asked her to inform that Robin wife had passed away.

The manager left the room quietly. Robin was in tears. He went back to his village to complete the last rites.

When he came back, he was truly sad as if he was someone else.

A few day later when everyone was praising the manger he said, “Let’s not talk about him. He is a heartless fellow who has no emotions.”

That day his colleagues revealed the truth that just a few days before he joined the office the manager had lost all his family. His wife and a twelve-year-old son died in the plane crash.

Robin felt really bad, as he had made a mistake to judge someone he knew nothing about.
