The Act of Fury (Anger)

The Act of Fury (Anger)

The Act of Fury (Anger)

Well, it is such a character trait which we can neither say a positive virtue nor a negative virtue. It can be defined as the violent method of making things right or on our favour. It may be for a good reason or for some selfish reason. Generally we blame anger as a fault. But sometimes it is right to be angry, and there is such a thing as holy anger. The bible speaks of the “wrath of god” when even Jesus Christ himself became angry as little children were not allowed to touch him and then he said “suffer the little children to come unto me, and rebuke them not”.

Now the question arises when to get angry? When not to get angry? The answer is when we see that something unjust is taking place and no one is raising a voice as protest, and then it is the correct time for using the power of anger. When we see that there is no need of persuasion to the people then there is no need of anger. However, sometimes, for our own need, we use our virtue of getting angry to make things in our favour.

Anger vs. Bad Temper

Some of us think that bad temper and anger is same but it is very different. Bad tempered people are angry only when something happens against them and they can even take steps against their friends or family. A person, who is angry, becomes angry for valid reasons which are sometimes wrong. But bad temper is always wrong and generally foolish. Bad temper is due to lack of self-control. Even the best men feel vexed and cross sometimes. But sometimes anger arises from selfishness, conceit and hatred, is always wrong. To be angry with a man because he has hurt you, mocked at you, or insulted you, may be natural but it is none the less wrong. When Jesus was crucified, he said to god “father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” He meant to say that god should forgive them as they don’t know what they are doing. The bible says, “Love your enemies” as it is the only way to remove the unwanted feeling of anger. We can decrease our enemies by making the enemies our friends. As wise men said, “let not the sun go down upon your wrath.” As they meant to say that anger leads to hatred and it often lead to serious crimes such murder and homicides.

Anger is the effect of lacking in the ability of self-control. Some people get into dreadful passions about nothing and while they are in rage, they are like madmen, and will do and say unjust and unkind things for which they will be sorry all through their lives. Such are to be pitied and despised, for they are the slaves, and not the masters, of their passions.Hence, we can conclude that, anger is a necessary evil which sometimes is good and sometimes is bad for us.
