Let Bygones be Bygones

Spring Leaves

“I don’t think of the past. The only thing that matters is the everlasting present.”
W. Somerset Maugham (1874 – 1965), “The Moon and Sixpence”

I know, better said than done. But for how long will you sit out there weep and cry for that same old mistake, the same old broken heart! I mean let’s face it we all have a past that we are not particularly proud of and we all want to get rid of that one memory which has been haunting us for days and months.

Just accept the fact that it’s over! If you want to live in peace and live without any regrets learn to forgive and forget. Do not cry over what is gone or what you never got in life, it wasn’t meant for you. So forget it and forgive that person (or forgive yourself if it’s your mistake) and just move on. Live in the present and believe in the future. There’s definitely something great waiting for you out there!

Let me tell you a brief story which will help you realize that god has given sorrows and sufferings to everyone all that differs is the attitude with which you tackle it.

A True Life Story

Athlete Glenn Cunningham was burned severely in a schoolhouse fire at the age of 8 .Doctors said he could never walk again, but little Glenn was determined to walk and so he would throw him out of the wheel chair and drag himself across yards along a fence and 22 months later he learned to walk and through his determination he even ran ignoring great pain. On June 16 1934 Glenn ran a mile in 4 minutes breaking the world record.

Like you even Glenn had two choices he could live with whatever happened with him and could have blamed the past incident for his present condition or he could forget the past, and try and work hard in the present for the future he had dreamt of!

He chose the second option and I say you do the same! Don’t cry and blame the past for your condition. Get up and make an effort to improve it.

Learn from the Old Mistakes

Did you know that Thomas Edison had tried two thousand different materials of the perfect filament of a bulb but none proved to be useful? Then his assistant got tired and stated complaining that all their efforts went in vain. To this Edison replied “We have come a long way, we have learned a lot, now we know two thousand different elements which cannot make a good light bulb!”

Girl Thinking

Whatever happened in the past happened for a reason. Learn from it and use your experience to give yourself a better future. Set yourself free from the grip of those old haunting memories.

You might be so busy thinking about your past and sulking over it that you did not hear the new opportunities knocking at your door. You eyes might have been too full of tears for you to notice the ones who supported you in your tough time. So go get up say yes to those new opportunities rather than regretting the one you lost, say thanks to the ones who were there for you instead of crying for the one who is no longer there.

Remember You are Not the Only One

Office team

Always remember one thing in life you are not the only one upon which god has bestowed all the miseries and hardships. There are people in a condition much worse than yours.

“I was crying for a pair of shoes, and then I saw a man with no feet!” – Anonymous

I know, sympathizing yourself doesn’t really help. When you are upset you will always get to see people more fortunate and happy than you, but try and look beyond what life shows you and see the ones who are not as blessed as you. See those orphan kids in an NGO, a beggar on the street, an old widow who lost his only young son in a war. Imagine what it feels like to be one among them! You will never be able to understand what they go through everyday but life doesn’t stop for them so why have you stopped living your life?

Just because you did not get what you expected or wanted from the past doesn’t mean you will never get it. It just means if not past it is going to be your future.

Just Let Go and Start Afresh

Beautiful Field

Do not live your present life carrying heavy loads of your past memories. Get one thing straight that you are the one who can mend or destroy your life .It is you who will have to take the final decision of your life. So isn’t it better to just let go of all those memories, troubles and regrets that will never let you live in peace, that will never let you smile, that will never let you believe in future? It’s high time you bury the dead and start your life afresh. It’s time for the world to see the real you .Your past memories will help to make you a better person. Someone who is way stronger and courageous than what you were previously.

“Any change, any loss, does not make us victims. Others can shake you, surprise you, disappoint you, but they can’t prevent you from acting, from taking the situation you’re presented with and moving on. No matter where you are in life, no matter what your situation, you can always do something. You always have a choice and the choice can be power”. – Blaine

So one last time cry over your past if you want to and if that makes you feel better, but make sure once you stop crying you will never cry for that same reason again! Get up, wipe your tears and show the world that you will not let your past destroy your future. You will always have the good memories with you and you will get over the bad ones because tomorrow is just a sunrise away!
