How to handle irritations from pets?

Many people choose to keep pets because they are cute and fuzzy-they also teach kids how to be responsible and make great companions for disabled kids. Pets can also cause us to develop certain allergies- this is because our immune may have a reaction to certain substances that our pets carry. The type of reactions can be very serious where your eyes swell, nose runs and you develop rashes. While some people have limited sensitivity or allergic reactions that require light medication. Here are some preventative measures that can help you to manage pet allergies: Setting up restrictions: If you have a serious allergy to fur, then you probably not get a pet. But if you already have one and a family member develops an allergy, then their bedroom should be off limits for the pet. The allergens in the pet’s fur may travel through the air conditioning or heating systems if they are airborne. Use filters or have the venting system maintained regularly to prevent the allergens from being spread around.

Train your pet: Teach your pet not to jump on furniture and keep the dining room, kitchen and bedrooms out off limits. Instead buy them a dog bed and ensure that it is washed in hot water regularly. Their food bowls, beddings and toys should have their own place so that you don’t unknowingly spread the allergens.

Groom your pet: Wash and brush your pet to prevent the buildup of dust and allergens. It is better if you groom and bathe your pets outdoors or in the bathroom by a family member who is not allergic to them. If you don’t have the time, you can always send to a dog grooming service.

Keep pet outdoors: If the allergy is very serious, then you may have to consider keeping your pets outdoors. This may not be healthy for the pets as it may get too hot or cold depending on the season. If you have no other option, then you may have to give your pet away to another home where he can happy.

Avoid contact with pets: This is especially meant for children, who may play with the pets or pet them and forget to wash their hands. The sufferer should not touch the pet in any circumstance if their allergy is a very serious one. Always ensure that their hands are washed after they play with or pet the dog and keep their allergy medication nearby in case of emergencies. If their allergies spin out of control, contact your doctor immediately.
