All too often the best way to see a light at the end of the tunnel is to… go turn it on

Tunnel with Light

Life is never an easy ride, not for you , not for me, not for anybody else in this big wide world. It is a journey through many tunnels, some having light while some, painfully, pitch black dark. Love, Career, relationships, phases of depression, tragedy, hopelessness or mere nothingness over long dark phases of life happen to everyone.

There are points in time when life throws something at you and you feel that you have lost everything that you had while there are also times when even though nothing has actually happened, you still go over a phase of nothingness and stagnation, demotivated to do anything else other than just mere day to day survival and just seeing life through. Both these very common phases are like dark tunnels in life and unending ones if you don’t do anything about it.

The Light at the end of the tunnel:

Philosophers, spiritual teachers, psychologists, friends and family talk about hope. Talk about how always tunnels have light at the end of it and motivate you towards hoping and believing about the existence of the light to which you must proceed enthusiastically without slowing down or stopping midway. They say ‘there is always light at the end of the tunnel’. But what do they mean? What do they try to convey? What it essentially means is that:

  • Bad phases in life are temporary and sooner or later good times would come back
  • There is always positivity in life after a very bad phase of negativity and one should believe this and look forward to it without going into depression
  • One has to be optimistic in life and look at the positive side of things so as to get through the dark phase and not be stuck into it forever
  • One should see towards the light at the end of the tunnel and focus on reaching it, only then would the dark tunnel seemingly pass away quicker.

How to see the light at the end of the tunnel?

The above is a very true and crucial saying which motivates one to see beyond the current times of despair and helplessness, the phase of torture and pain or frustration and depression. But the question remains that what if someone just cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel? What if he / she is so blinded by frustration and despair that the dark tunnel seems painfully unending without a ray of light anywhere to be seen or hoped?

People who have gone down the depths of the depression ladder or most commonly even the burnout ladder cannot even belief that there will be light somewhere for them ever. So what does one do now? How does one actually see that there’s light at the end of the tunnel? The answer to this is merely – Go turn on the lights yourself. Yes, you heard it right. The best way to see light at the end of a tunnel is to go turn it on yourself.

How do I turn on the light?

While all this while we were talking about hope and belief, what essentially is required is just a bit of initiative. The initiative to take controlof your own life!

Too many people sit and watch for the light at the end of the tunnel to loom larger and come close unknowingly wasting months or even years in progress. For some the light might as well be a mirage would never comes upon them ever till they breath their last, eternally wasting away a precious life that could have been used to do so much more. Sad.

The best thing to do if you are sad, bereaved, frustrated and simply tired with life is not to wait for the light but to simply go turn it on.

Where and when and how you are taking the initiative is secondary. Whether you start meditation or join a dance class, move to a different place with a new job or start a new hobby, what you do is not so important as that initiative to take that step. It is the activity of telling yourself that ‘I’m going to do something constructive to get myself out of this phase’ is what is important.

The saying to yourself and then acting towards it is what is meant by walking up and switching the green light on. It is the vibration that you feel inside form taking the initiative is what turns that green light on and not what you do per se. People who understand this line of difference would understand what it takes to take charge of one’s life.

To certain extent it is very easy as it is tough. Once you realize that it is the initiative taking constructive step that results in the necessary positive vibration deep within you, it will be always easy to turn the green light on at the end of the tunnel. Since all you need to do is take a little initiative, a mere step forward from the vegetative step.

But why it is equally difficult is because many do not realize this difference. They think more about what to do in terms of the activity and whether they would like it enough to continue with it or whether it would actually pull them out of depression, etcand get stuck further never reaching the green light at all.

So what happens with one small step of initiative? Why does it turn the light green? The reasons are:

  • It tells your unconscious and subconscious mind that you ‘want to’ do something, which in turn sends out electrical signals in the brain resulting in slight changing of the way it functions – more importantly – changes how you think and how you react to things.
  • The feeling of taking an initiative for your own betterments creates a deep seated vibration within – a positive vibration that is healthy for your mind, body and whole being
  • It is a ‘green light’ signal both physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually that tells your unconscious that the tunnel is coming to an end resulting in a constructive, positive and happier outlook towards life

Now that you know, what are you waiting for? Take charge of your own life for god’s sake! Go turn that light green yourself!
