So, this brings us to an important question – Can attitude be changed? If yes, How to improve attitude?

According to a good number of psychologists, attitudes can be changed. Getting influenced by others is a major reason for a change in attitude. Emotion, as put forth by psychologists, is also an important component of attitude change.  It is also believed that the advertising industry functions on the notion that people’s attitudes change changed towards a product or a service.

To change the Attitude one must change his thinking (Please Read about “thinking” topics on DrPrem.com for more details).

There are also some attitude change theories.  The most important of the lot is the Cognitive Dissonance Theory. Let’s know more about it:

Cognitive Dissonance Theory: Cognitive Dissonance is a kind of discomfort people feel when two conflicting ideas appear simultaneously in their minds. During such discomfort, people are forced to change their attitudes in order to gain something. Example – In a job interview, your to-be boss says he loves a particular movie which you hated. When he asks your opinion on the movie, you lie to him saying you loved the film too, just to make sure you agree with him in order to increase your chances of cracking the interview.
