Must have foods to avoid lyme disease

Lyme disease, otherwise known as lyme borreliosis is an infectious disease that is caused by the species of bacteria from the family genus borrelia. The disease is transmitted to humans by the tick bites resulting in symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, depression, fever, and a circular rash on the skin called erythema. When this infectious disease is left untreated, it may lead to the symptoms in the joints, heart and the CNS (central nervous system). Though there are a lot of medications to suppress the symptoms, a research says the best suited treatment option for this disease is diet. The dos and don’ts that have to be followed in the diet are very vital to get rid of the symptoms more easily. The main aspect of the diet is the fact that the food taken in any form must be more alkaline so that the bacteria is destroyed easily. When the pH value of the food is above 7, then the harmful bacteria is unable to thrive.

Vegetables

Fresh vegetables, especially green ones tend to contain alkaline property of an exceeding pH greater than 7 that are destroyers of harmful bacteria. Some veggies that are best suited for lyme disease include potatoes, spinach, cabbage, string beans, carrots, cucumbers and onions. A healthy sandwich in the morning with fresh vegetables is one of the best breakfast in the diet. When consuming these vegetables, care has to be taken to ensure to keep them free from chemicals and preservatives. To ensure this, washing these veggies 3-4 times in distilled water is advisable. Also, these veggies must be taken in the raw form.

Meat

Red meats serve as good sources of alkaline foods that can help in providing protein sources, destroyers of the bacteria. All kinds of meats can be consumed by a person infected by lyme disease, but the main aspect is that these meats must not be in processed form such as pepperoni, hot dogs, balongs, skew, to name a few types. Also care has to be taken to buy meat in the fresh and organic form, not in the preserved form. The preservatives that are added to meats have the tendency to act friendly to the bacteria. Some types of meats include chicken, lamb, fish, beef, bison, buffalo, pig and chick eggs. The white portion of the egg is the best destroyer of these bacteria.

Fruits

All fruits that contain less amounts of sugar are best suited for lyme disease. Again, the main aspect is to take care whether or not these fruits are in the fresh and organic form. Citrus fruits have a property of killing and destroying the bacterial walls and stopping the growth. Some best suited fruits include blackberries, blueberries, green apples, grapes (black), avocados, tomatoes (anti-oxidant property of the lycopene, that it contains, suppresses the growth of the bacteria), raspberries, strawberries, coconut, lime and so on.

Grains

When grains are taken as a part of the diet, care must be taken to avoid gluten containing grains. Some best suited grains are oats, brown rice, wild rice, millet, buckwheat, quinoa, corn and so on. These grains must be taken along with boiled water or in the plain form after boiling. Strictly, these grains must not be taken with milk. Eggs or fruits as mentioned earlier can be taken along with the grains.

Spices and herbs

Spices and herbs play a vital role in the diet since they add the flavor to the food that is consumed and one has to be very careful to choose these. Spices that can be included are cinnamon, nutmeg, oregano, sage, sea salt, apple cider vinegar, braggs liquid aminos (instead of soy sauce). Herbs play an essential role as an alternative medicine for lyme disease. Garlic contains a chemical called allicin which is a potential antiseptic for controlling and destroying lyme causing bacteria. Caveats, a herb has the potential to destruct the lyme causing bacteria. Aloe vera has the potential to boost immune system and this helps our body to, by itself destroy the lyme causing bacteria. All these must be consumed in juice form to have immediate effect on the system.

Must have and must avoid oils

When our mother nature is there to provide a helping hand offering natural remedies that help in combating lyme disease, then why do we need to think about medications! There are certain pure essential oils that are a “Must have” components of the diet. These oils have the properties acting as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic in nature. Some oils include clove, flax seed oil, olive oil, copaiba oil, mellisa oil, oregano oil and so on. Care should be taken that these are taken in the pure form without addition of any preservatives. These oils can be used in cooking methods such as grilling, frying, baking and steaming. Other oils such as refined oil, sunflower oil are antagonistic to lyme disease and are must avoid oils.

Water in combination with lime and olive oil

Water is the best of all the diet ingredients. Bacteria never thrive when there is more water, especially when it is in warm water with a few drops of olive oil and lime in it. This is the most powerful than any other medication that is available for the lyme disease. It is advisable to take water in the purest form (RO treated is best suited). Drinking 10-12 glasses of water daily and taking 1-2 glasses along with lime and olive oil is recommended as a part of the dietary plan to treat lyme disease. Water that is taken only in the aforesaid combination for treating lyme disease.

Vitamins

Vitamin A

For patients who are affected by lyme disease, vitamin A is very important, it has an ability to act on the immune system and improve the functioning of the same. Also, it helps in fighting the infectious disease acting as an anti-oxidant. When there is a deficiency of vitamin A, it might prolong the illness and may lead to lyme arthritis. Recommended intake of vitamin A: 3-5,000 IU os fat-soluble vitamin A plus 5-10,000 units water-soluble vitamin A. In case of pregnant women, care must be taken and consumption of vitamin A supplements without a physician’s advice is harmful.

Vitamin B complex

B complex is composed of the package of all the vitamin Bs-B1-B12. These vitamins have a special property to closely work on the immune system directly and reduce the growth of the bacteria in the system creating a mechanism wherein our body gains the ability to fight with these lyme causing bacteria and destroy its growth and evade from the system completely.

Vitamin C

The best of all the vitamins with its immune-boosting properties is a water soluble one and it is a potent fighter to kill the bacteria and suppress its growth. Consuming 500-2000 mg per day is recommended to fight against lyme disease.

Mineral and enzyme supplements

Magnesium is a mineral that is depleted in the body to the
entry of the lyme causing bacteria. Hence, to keep the body healthy, there needs to be food supplements to be consumed for getting the required quantity of magnesium the body needs. Recommended daily allowance of magnesium must be around 400-500 mg. Some nutritional sources of magnesium include nuts, orange colored foods, apricots, chocolate, figs, oats, beans and so on.

When it comes to enzymes, they play a major role in acting as catalysts for the destructive reactions of the lyme causing bacteria. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an essential enzyme that helps in producing the energy required for the body to fight against microbes and destroy them. Also, such enzymes act as potential immune system strengtheners. This enzyme has an additional ability to act as a neuro-protector, aids to prevent any neurological disorders such as arthritis, when the lyme disease is acquired by the person. This is a “Must have supplement” that can act as a helpful tool to support assimilation of the vitamin and mineral supplements that are taken.

Must avoid foods

The first and the foremost thing that any person needs to avoid when infected by lyme causing bacteria is alcohol and smoking, which is prone to aggravate the symptoms. The next trio that need to be avoided in diet is gluten, diary and sugar. Gluten is a protein that is found as a component of barley and wheat. These products tend to have occurrences of yeast and it has a tendency to promote the growth of the bacteria. Diary is the next one to be avoided. Even consuming milk must be stopped when a person is diagnosed with lyme disease. Animal’s milk contain casein, a protein that can cause inflammation in the infected victims. Sugar is the close companion for any bacteria to grow happily in the body. So, the sugar needs to be strictly cut off when you have lyme disease.

All these dietary components play a major role in treating lyme disease. So, necessary care needs to be taken when they are consumed. The prominent fact is “Go organic, say no to gluten, diary and sugar, stop smoking and alcohol”.
